I guess they haven't been around bikers very much. It's pretty standard, you don't sit or ride someone else's bike unless the owner *offers* to let you. As far as passengers asking for a ride, well, that happens all the time. My response (last year to a co-worker) was "What, are you stupid? I just got my license. You should ask how much experience someone has had before you get on the back of their bike. Don't you value your life? I know I don't want the responsibility of your life in my hands." Of course, I'm a girl and don't feel the need to be macho about this. So, I was very blunt. No one at work has ever asked me for a ride again. I know my SO used to get asked all the time. I even asked him before we were an item. He told me if I came to work dressed to ride he'd bring the extra helemt. He did. The next day I bought lunch and we went for a ride. He asked me after shy I wanted a ride. He couldn't even tell that I was on the back. I obviously had ridden before. I told him I had but it had been years and I just wanted a ride. I had never riden by myself at that time. Never even occurred to me to get my own bike. My husband at the time had totaled his bike first time out.
